Billions for investment in high-power charging stations getting closer
Poland’s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will provide more than PLN 1.264 bln to four power distribution operators, PGE, Tauron, Enea, and Energa, to expand the electricity grid for high-power charging stations serving heavy-duty transport.
The first funding round covers 147 locations across Poland, with total connection capacity of 493 MW. The stations will be built mainly along the TEN-T network, near logistics hubs, depots, intermodal terminals, and highway service areas. The projects are expected to be completed within 24 months and should not increase regulated customers’ electricity bills.
Poland ultimately plans almost 500 charging locations, spaced roughly every 60 kilometers. The government intends to allocate PLN 6 bln in total to electrifying heavy transport, including PLN 2 bln each for grids, chargers, and electric trucks.
