Deutsche Telekom buys Polish fiber network
Deutsche Telekom is making a major investment in Poland’s telecommunications infrastructure, agreeing to acquire Fiberhost and sister cable operator Inea in a transaction valued at around EUR 1 billion. Fiberhost operates one of Poland’s largest wholesale fiber-optic networks, reaching approximately 1.4 million households. Deutsche Telekom already owns T-Mobile Polska, making the acquisition a significant expansion of its Polish infrastructure footprint.
The deal highlights the continuing consolidation of Poland’s telecommunications market as operators compete for control of high-speed fixed networks alongside mobile services. Fiber infrastructure has become increasingly valuable as demand for data-intensive services grows and operators prepare networks for further digitalization. For Deutsche Telekom, acquiring Fiberhost provides direct access to a substantial fiber network rather than relying exclusively on third-party infrastructure, strengthening its position against Orange Polska, Play and other major telecommunications competitors.
