Driver's Licenses in Poland and EU will have to be replaced if issued before Jan 19, 2013

Lifetime driver’s licenses in Poland will be phased out under new EU-aligned regulations. All licenses will have a maximum validity of 15 years, meaning documents issued before January 2013 must be replaced. The mandatory exchange will take place gradually between 2028 and 2033 and could affect up to 15 million drivers.

The process requires submitting an application, photo, ID, current license, and payment. Fees are expected to rise to about PLN 115.50, with additional costs for photos and medical exams if needed.

Authorities expect a surge in applications but emphasize the change aims to standardize rules across the EU and improve document security. Drivers are advised to prepare early to avoid long lines.
