Europe entering winter with gas shortages
Poland’s gas storage facilities are 98.42% full, the highest level in Europe, compared with a European average of 69.92%, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe figures cited by WNP. Germany and the Netherlands face greater risks, with storage levels of just 56.55% and 55.06%, respectively. Shortages in these major markets could disrupt regional supplies and drive up prices. High gas prices have discouraged companies from replenishing stocks, fearing losses if prices subsequently fall.
Poland’s LNG terminal and Baltic Pipe connection to Norway strengthen supply security, although its relatively small storage capacity limits protection. Nearly full reserves therefore provide a buffer without eliminating exposure to wider European market pressures.
