Even if President vetoes SAFE program, government can sign agreement with EC
Government plenipotentiary for the EU SAFE program Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka said that even if President Karol Nawrocki vetoes the law implementing the rearmament scheme, the government can still sign an agreement with the European Commission. She explained that the law mainly establishes a financial mechanism at state development bank BGK to manage and supervise funds, but the EU resources allocated to Poland are not directly dependent on it. SAFE provides low interest loans for defense investments, with Poland set to receive about €43.7 billion from the €150 billion facility.
The government continues talks with the president’s office, which is preparing proposed amendments to the draft legislation.
