According to the Central Statistical Office (GUS), the extent of economic poverty in households in Poland remained similar in 2022 compared to the previous year, despite a real decline in the average material situation due to high inflation. The relative poverty rate was around 11.8%, slightly lower than in 2021, while the statutory poverty rate stood at 7.1%. GUS uses the subsistence minimum, determined by the Institute of Labour and Social Affairs (IPiSS), as the basis for defining extreme poverty.

The subsistence minimum represents a very low level of meeting basic needs, and falling below this threshold hinders survival and poses risks to individuals' psycho-physical development.
