The turnover generated in the gray zone of the online gambling market in Poland amounted to PLN 27.7 billion in 2021, or 51% of the entire online casino and bookmaker market, according to EY estimates. As a result, the state treasury lost PLN 782 million in 2021 due to unpaid gaming tax. In the online gambling market, the gray economy refers to games and bets organized without the required permits.

The legal part of the online casino and bookmaker industry generated PLN 26.6 billion in turnover. “For years, the legal part of the industry has been calling for more decisive action against companies operating outside Polish law, including more effective blocking of illegal websites and payments to them,” President of the Graj Legalnie Association Paweł Sikora said.
