First agricultural biomethane plant in Poland officially opens
Poland’s first agricultural biomethane plant has opened in Komorowo near Ostrów Mazowiecka and has been connected to the national gas distribution network. Agro-Biogas will convert cattle slurry and manure into purified renewable gas, initially injecting about 1.62 mln cubic meters annually, with planned capacity of 2.1 mln cubic meters, equivalent to roughly 15.9 GWh of energy. The project currently operates at 0.5 MW and is intended to reach 1 MW after approvals.
It cost several dozen mln PLN and is expected to pay back within seven to 10 years. Poland’s biomethane potential is estimated at up to 8 bln cubic meters annually, enough to cover about 40% of current gas consumption.
