Foreign investors dominate the Warsaw Stock Exchange

In 2021, individual investors were responsible for 22 percent of turnover on the WSE Main Market (3 pp. less y/y). Foreign investors were responsible for 57 percent of turnover (1 pp. more y/y), and Polish institutional investors – for 21 percent (2 pp. more y/y). Individual investors are still in the lead on the NewConnect market, with a turnover share of 88 percent (4 pp. less y/y). The share of institutional investors increased to 7 percent (3 pp. more y/y) and the share of foreign investors up to 6 percent and increased by 2 pp. y/y.
In the futures market in 2021, for the first time in 10 years, Polish institutional investors played the most important role. Their share was 41 percent (5 pp. more y/y). The share of individual investors dropped by 9 pp. y/y to 32 percent of turnover, and the share of foreign investors increased by 4 pp. up to 27 percent and was a historical record result.
