Government wants to cut greenwashing and unproven Eco label
Poland’s government has approved legislation targeting greenwashing, with new rules expected to take effect on September 27, 2026. Companies using claims such as “eco-friendly” or “climate-neutral” will need reliable evidence, recognized certifications, or measurable environmental performance. The rules will also cover product names, packaging, colors, logos, and symbols that suggest sustainability. Claims based only on carbon offsets, unsupported sustainability labels, and advertising legal requirements as special product advantages may be prohibited. Businesses face fines of up to 10% of annual revenue, while consumers may seek compensation or contract remedies.
Companies are being urged to audit labels, websites, advertising, and existing inventory, although industry groups are seeking transitional rules for products already on the market.
