GreenX wins against Poland in Singapore for PLN 1.2 bln
The Singapore International Commercial Court has fully rejected Poland’s request to annul an arbitral award granting GreenX Metals compensation of about PLN 1.2 billion. In 2024, the company won roughly GBP 252 million in arbitration over Poland’s breach of international investment treaties related to the planned Jan Karski coal mine. Poland sought to overturn the ruling in courts in Singapore and London, under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) and a bilateral investment treaty (BIT).
The Singapore court dismissed the ECT challenge, dealing a setback to Poland’s case. Interest on the award has continued to accrue, raising the total amount owed. GreenX has signaled that any received compensation would be distributed to shareholders as dividends, and the company’s shares surged over 20% following the decision.
