Grupa Azoty temporarily suspends new orders as gas prices fluctuate
The war in the Middle East and a sharp surge in natural gas prices have prompted Grupa Azoty, Poland’s state-controlled fertilizer producer, to temporarily suspend new March orders for nitrogen fertilizers, though production continues at full capacity. The company is fulfilling all previously placed orders.
Gas prices, a key input in nitrogen fertilizer production, rose by 35–50 percent on March 2 and increased by another 30 percent shortly afterward. While non-European producers such as Egypt, Algeria, China, and the United States raised fertilizer prices immediately, Grupa Azoty chose not to pass the full cost increase onto customers. Instead, it paused new orders to avoid financial losses. The company says domestic supply remains secure and multi-nutrient fertilizer orders continue.
