More than half of institutional investors (52 percent) currently own bitcoin or other crypto assets, according to major research by Fidelity Digital Assets. As noted by Simon Peters, a cryptocurrency analyst on the eToro platform, the Institutional Investor Digital Assets Study published annually shows that the events of last year were the main driving force behind the acquisition of cryptocurrencies by institutional investors.

"The results show that 80 percent of Asian and 75 percent of European investors say they plan to buy crypto assets. 70 percent of Asian investors already own them. As many as 84 percent of European and American investors are interested in purchasing institutional investment products containing crypto-assets,” Simon Peters stressed.

Meanwhile, major hedge fund Brevan Howard launched a crypto unit to focus its activities in this sector. The European Hedge Fund is one of the largest in the world but does not enjoy much recognition.

"The new unit – BH Digital – will handle the research and management of cryptocurrencies. The news is the latest following the announcements of major global institutions regarding investments in the cryptocurrency sector such as Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and BNY Mellon," eToro analyst added.
