Prime Minister proposes tighter penalties for cryptocurrency fraud
The government led by Donald Tusk plans to resubmit a cryptocurrency bill to the Sejm this week, introducing stricter penalties for fraud targeting individuals misled in crypto investments. The proposal follows two vetoes by President Karol Nawrocki, who criticized earlier versions as excessive and unclear. The bill aims to implement the EU’s MiCA framework and strengthen oversight powers of the Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego, including suspending or banning crypto offerings.
Despite minimal changes beyond tougher penalties, the government hopes the revised proposal will pass and improve investor protection and market regulation.
