Debt owed by Poland’s HoReCa and tourism businesses has risen to PLN 526.9 million, according to data from the National Debt Register cited by Money.pl. The register lists 16,021 companies in the sector with 121,800 unpaid obligations. Compared with a year earlier, the number of debtors increased by 114 and total arrears rose 10%. Average debt per company reached PLN 32,900, up PLN 2,700 year on year.
Restaurants and other food-service businesses account for almost 65% of the sector’s debt, or PLN 340.2 million. Hotels and other accommodation providers owe PLN 57 million, while catering and other food-service operators owe PLN 49 million. Sole proprietors make up 8,950 of roughly 16,000 indebted businesses and owe PLN 278.8 million. Mazovia has the highest regional total at PLN 124 million, twice the PLN 62 million recorded in Lower Silesia, the second-highest region.
