'It reminds me of the Bolshevik times': President of Supreme Audit Office
On April 28, the house of Jakub Banaś, son of the president of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK), Marian Banaś, was searched. The search was carried out by agents of the Central Anticorruption Bureau on the order of prosecutor Elżbieta Pieniążek from the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Białystok.
In the afternoon, Banaś made a statement to the media on this matter.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the operational activities of the CBA towards my son cannot be considered without the context, which is the publication by the Supreme Audit Office of the results of the inspection regarding the organization of correspondence elections for the office of the President of the Republic of Poland,” he said.
The President of the NIK added that his son, like himself, had been constantly under surveillance and repressed along with the entire family for a year.
"This is to force me to resign from my post and change the results of the conducted and completed inspections. The search activities concerned my son and my daughter-in-law. Her private and official data were secured. It reminds me of the Bolshevik times when the fact that I was a patriot I was sentenced to four years in prison. Today, in allegedly free and independent Poland, the authorities do the same," he stressed.
Marian Banaś stated that today the NIK is "the only institution independent of the authorities and will defend its independence until the end of its term.
