Job offers increased, strongest in months, but experts doubt
Poland’s Job Offers Barometer rose by 4.7 points in May to 258.2, up from 253.5 in April, according to a report by WSIiZ in Rzeszów and BIEC. Online job postings have been recovering since February and have returned to levels seen a year earlier. Excluding seasonal work, the number of offers increased in all regions, with the strongest monthly gains in Podkarpackie, Lubuskie, and Podlaskie.
However, experts warn against reading too much into the rebound. Registered unemployment, adjusted for seasonal work, rose to 6% in April, with the number of unemployed increasing for the third consecutive month to its highest level since June 2021. Analysts say the labor market remains weak, although it is approaching a recovery phase. The rise in vacancies may reflect employee replacement rather than real workforce expansion. Demand is growing for science-related roles and services, while vacancies for manual workers continue to decline.
