KPO Scandal. Funds Spent on Yachts, Beer and Tanning Salons

Hundreds of thousands of zlotys from the National Recovery Plan (KPO), intended to support businesses after the pandemic, were allegedly spent on questionable and extravagant items. Internet users revealed that grants were awarded for yachts, tanning salons, coffee machines, and even “nutritional” beer and bridge-playing platforms.
One pizzeria opened a tanning salon, while a hotel invested PLN 417,000 in artisanal ice cream. The revelations sparked outrage online, harsh criticism from politicians, and concerns over a lack of oversight.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded swiftly, demanding that Minister Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz conduct an immediate review of the controversial subsidies and revoke funds where abuses are confirmed.
“This is a scandal,” commented MPs.
