Logistics companies heavily in debt with 92% receiving late payments
Polish road freight companies have plenty of work but face worsening cash flow as clients pay late. Nearly 23,738 carriers owe a combined PLN 1.32 bln, up 2% y/y, according to the National Debt Register. Some 92% of transport firms receive payments past due, and the median value of overdue invoices rose to PLN 90,000 from PLN 75,500 a year earlier. Meanwhile, EU diesel prices increased 12% in the second quarter of 2026, while spot freight rates rose about 11% quarter over quarter.
Small businesses, especially sole proprietorships, account for most indebted carriers. Delayed payments force companies to cover fuel, wages, leasing, and maintenance costs themselves, and can trigger a wider chain of missed payments.
