Minister of Energy outlines severe issues with power plants and water needs
Poland does not expect power outages or electricity supply restrictions despite record-low water levels in the Vistula River, Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka said. Low river levels have forced some generating units at the Połaniec and Kozienice coal plants to reduce output, while a gas unit in Stalowa Wola has also been affected. However, Motyka said Poland’s diversified power system and capacity market mechanisms are ensuring security of supply.
The Vistula measured 103 cm at Warsaw’s Bulwary station, equivalent to just 3 cm under the measurement system used before November 2025. Hydrological drought warnings remain in force across much of Poland, while heat and drought are also disrupting energy production and river transport elsewhere in Europe.
