Minister of State Assets summarizes most important challenges facing Poland
Poland’s Minister of State Assets Wojciech Balczun outlined key challenges and opportunities for the country, highlighting a strong showing at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the urgent need to modernize Poczta Polska, the critical financial situation of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), and Poland’s role in Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Balczun said Poland’s presence in Davos was among its strongest in a decade, reinforcing its position as a key Central European player and future G20 participant. Domestically, he stressed that Poczta Polska requires deep structural reform and digitalization, not short-term acquisitions. JSW, facing severe liquidity risks amid collapsing coal prices, can only be stabilized through restructuring tied to labor cost reductions and external financing. Internationally, Balczun emphasized Poland’s growing role as the main logistics hub for rebuilding Ukraine, giving Polish firms a strategic advantage in securing long-term reconstruction contracts.
