Money from SAFE going to Polish companies for defense
The first SAFE program payment has reached Polish defense companies after contracts were signed. SAFE provides Poland with about EUR 43.7 bln in EU loans for defense investments, mainly equipment for the Polish Armed Forces. Around EUR 6.5 bln, or a 15% advance, has already gone to the Armed Forces Support Fund managed by BGK. Poland will submit requests to the European Commission twice a year for further payments, with the largest inflow expected this autumn.
Most of Poland’s allocation, about PLN 120 bln out of more than PLN 180 bln, is intended for domestic procurement. Equipment financed under SAFE must be delivered by 2030. Poland is the program’s largest beneficiary.
