Paying back debts is always a moral obligation for 91 percent of Poles, but more than half of the population accepts, among other things, working illegally to avoid collecting debts from their salaries or buying without a receipt to avoid paying VAT, according to the seventh edition of the "Financial Morality of Poles" report carried out for the Association of Financial Enterprises (ZPF), in partnership with BIG InfoMonitor, EOS Poland, Ikano Bank, and Ultimo.
Depicting the decisions and actions of compatriots in everyday life, the 2022 Index of Acceptance of Unethical Financial Behavior (IANZF) was 45 points, which means that nearly half of Poles are willing to justify deviations in the financial sphere from applicable legal norms or ethical standards.
The determination of the Index level consists of answers to 9 questions about possible behavior in life situations in which the respondent or others around him could find themselves. Compared to last year, the IANZF remained at a similar level, but the indications for its components have already changed slightly.
"The value of the Index of Acceptance of Unethical Financial Behavior over the past four years has remained above two-fifths, which shows a rather low level of ethical standards. It is worrying that Poles are ready to accept immoral and even illegal behavior in as many as half of the cases described. Especially since such behavior also affects the level of prices for products and services offered by companies affected by the lower morality of their customers or contractors," ZPF President Marcin Czugan said.
