New rules governing electricity tariffs and billing took effect in Poland on September 5, aiming to make household energy bills simpler and more transparent. Under a regulation issued by the energy minister, the subscription fee will be moved to the electricity sales portion of the bill, making it easier for consumers to compare regulated tariffs with market-based offers from energy suppliers. The government says the change should also make annual electricity costs more predictable. Households equipped with remote-reading smart meters will additionally be informed that they can choose billing based on their actual electricity consumption.

The broader regulation also covers energy-intensive companies, including measures designed to reduce their network charges.
