Novotel and WWF Poland join forces to tackle Baltic ghost nets
Novotel and WWF Poland have launched a local initiative to raise awareness of one of the Baltic Sea's most persistent environmental threats: ghost fishing nets. At an expert panel held at Novotel Warszawa Centrum, marine conservation specialists, hospitality leaders and environmental journalists discussed how abandoned fishing gear continues to damage marine ecosystems and contribute to microplastic pollution. The partnership combines sonar surveys, diver inspections and work on improving the collection and recycling of discarded fishing equipment.
The event forms part of Novotel's global collaboration with WWF France to support ocean restoration through science, education and conservation projects. Speakers also highlighted the hospitality sector's growing role in promoting sustainable tourism by educating guests, reducing waste and supporting responsible sourcing. Novotel Warszawa Centrum was one of just 12 hotels worldwide selected to host special World Oceans Day conservation activities this year.
