Nuclear project reaches key commercial terms
Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe has agreed the main commercial and legal terms of a planned engineering, procurement and construction contract with Westinghouse and Bechtel for Poland’s first nuclear power plant. PEJ said the agreement does not complete negotiations, but allows the parties to move into detailed provisions and attachments. The company said all sides intend to conclude negotiations by the end of 2026.
The parties are working under an engineering development agreement signed in April 2025. In August, PEJ handed Bechtel the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in the Choczewo municipality, where preparatory work and geological surveys are underway. PEJ filed an application with the National Atomic Energy Agency in March for authorization related to construction and plans to seek a building permit next year. The first Westinghouse AP1000 reactor is scheduled to enter service in 2036, followed by units in 2037 and 2038.
