Offshore development entering new phase
Poland’s offshore wind sector is entering a new phase, and companies need clear legal rules to prepare, Baltic Power CEO Maciej Stryjecki said at Energy Days. About a decade ago, analysts projected 4–6 GW of Baltic Sea wind capacity by 2030, a target then viewed skeptically. Most developers that won capacity auctions are now building projects, using newer technology, including higher-capacity turbines. A key concern is whether Polish suppliers will remain financially strong enough to serve the wind farms’ supply chains.
Authorities also need to establish frameworks for routine operations, including worker safety, medical support, helicopters and rescue vessels, before the farms begin delivering power to the grid.
