The annulled environmental decision of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency for the construction of the land part of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline concerned only one of the five parts of the investment. The remaining investments in Baltic Pipe are continuing, Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Piotr Dziadzio said.

The Baltic Pipe project consists of 5 main components: construction of a gas pipeline on the bottom of the North Sea, expansion of the Danish transmission system, construction of a compressor station in Denmark, and construction of a gas pipeline on the bottom of the Baltic Sea and expansion of the Polish transmission system. It is aimed at creating a new corridor for natural gas supplies from fields located in Norway to Poland. It is implemented by two transmission operators - Polish Gaz-System and Danish Energinet. The completion date for the investment is October 1, 2022.

On May 31, the Danish Environmental and Food Appeals Board canceled the environmental approval for the onshore part of the Baltic Pipe in Denmark issued by the Environmental Protection Agency on July 12, 2019. The decision is related to appeals filed in August 2019. After reviewing them, the Commission concluded that insufficient protection had been provided for mice and bats along the section running through the island of Funen.

The Danish operator in charge of the project, Energinet, reported that it was surprised by the Appeals Commission’s decision and assured that all environmental standards were respected.
