The state introduces drastic penalties for entrepreneurs, and prosecutors do not always apply them properly, Rzeczpospolita reported. Even if the allegations are not confirmed, the companies lose their reputation.
A penalty for not providing information about business schemes resulting in tax savings may amount to over PLN 20 mln. Enterpreneurs who falsify VAT invoices may spend up to 25 years in jail.
Often, such penalties are not so much the effect of the Polish government's policy, but rather the implementation of European Union norms to combat the so-called white collar crime, including tax evasion.
