Permit to build first nuclear power plant in Choczewo submitted
Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe submitted an application to Panstwowa Agencja Atomistyki for a construction permit for Poland’s first nuclear power plant in Choczewo. The regulator has up to 24 months to decide, though the investor hopes for a faster review. The documentation exceeds 42,000 pages and focuses on nuclear and radiological safety.
This is a key milestone, enabling a later building permit and planned first concrete in 2028. Costs are still under negotiation and depend on factors like the USD PLN exchange rate. The project involves partners Westinghouse and Bechtel. Electricity production is expected to start around 2036.
