A rail restriction from October 8 to 17 has halted shipments of all freight, including coal, through the Krasnoye–Osinovka crossing from Russia into Belarus. No reason was given. The measure could delay Kazakh coal bound for Poland, some of which travels through Belarus before reaching Polish depots.

Poland imported nearly 1.9 mln tons of Kazakh coal in the first half of 2026, making it the country’s largest single source of imported thermal coal. The Polish Coal Sellers’ Chamber warns that delays could continue after the restriction ends as backlogged freight competes for limited rail capacity. The disruption comes as heating season begins and domestic coal stockpiles are down 41% y/y.
