Borys Budka has been voted through as the new leader of the main opposition party, Civic Platform (PO).
In an interview for the Polish tabloid “Fakt”, Budka stated that the party has to be among the grassroots of the country to “regain the confidence of voters.”
The former justice minister was supported by the former prime minister and ex-president of the European Council Donald Tusk and another former PM closely linked to Tusk, Ewa Kopacz.
He defeated Tomasz Siemoniak who was backed by an outgoing PO leader, Grzegorz Schetyna.
Budka’s target now is to lead an effective campaign for PO’s presidential candidate, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, who is polling second to the incumbent Andrzej Duda.
