Poles still haven't convinced themselves to eat at restaurants and leave there only 3.6 percent of their household budget including hotel expenses. This is the third-lowest result in Europe, Eurostat reports. Only Romanians (3.1 percent) and Serbs (3 percent) spend less. Polish society surpassed Romanians only last year, among others because their restaurant and hotel expenses fell and ours increased. In 2018, the Polish spent €10.4 billion (PLN 44 billion) on this purpose. This is one third less than in Ireland, Belgium, and Sweden, countries much less populated than Poland - less than 5 million people live in Ireland, 11 million in Belgium and over 10 million in Sweden.
Residents of Malta spend most on restaurants and hotels - as much as 20.6 percent. It is almost twice as much as they spend on food outside restaurants. The largest value of this type of expenditure is in the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain, where they exceed €100 billion per year in total.
