Polish nuclear partners advance Pątnów reactor plans
ZE PAK subsidiary PAK SMR and Synthos Green Energy have signed an agreement to develop small modular nuclear reactors at Pątnów, Poland. The parties intend to establish a joint venture to prepare, build and operate a plant using BWRX-300 reactor technology. The proposed development could eventually consist of six reactors with combined capacity of 1,800 megawatts. The agreement sets out a framework for cooperation rather than authorizing construction.
Synthos Green Energy, controlled by Michał Sołowow, would hold the majority interest and manage the venture, while PAK SMR would retain a minority share with protections. Formation of the special purpose company remains subject to necessary antitrust approvals. The proposed nuclear project is intended to provide replacement generating capacity as lignite power production at the site is phased out. Financial arrangements and further development steps will determine whether the proposed reactors proceed.
