President appoints four members of NBP board
President Karol Nawrocki appointed four members to the National Bank of Poland’s management board, ending a political deadlock that began in May. Marta Kightley returns as first deputy governor, while Przemysław Litwiniuk becomes a deputy governor and Ludwik Kotecki joins the board. Marcin Zarzecki’s appointment takes effect January 2, 2027, when he will replace Marta Gajęcka. Prime Minister Donald Tusk had countersigned the appointments on November 3. Kotecki, Litwiniuk, and Zarzecki currently serve on the Monetary Policy Council, so their move to the board will require the council to fill three vacancies.
The appointments also restore the board’s membership after it risked falling below the statutory minimum.
