Regulator challenges CANAL+ over sports packages
The Polish consumer watchdog UOKiK has filed allegations against CANAL+ Polska concerning information supplied to customers buying sports television packages. The regulator says customers taking out or renewing contracts for the Mistrzowska Piłka package may not have been clearly told that access would end on June 30, 2024. Their subscriptions continued after that date, but the package was withdrawn although the operator offered Champions League matches through other paid options.
Investigators examined sales calls and contract documentation, identifying possible discrepancies between sales assurances and the package conditions. UOKiK is also investigating complaints about access to Spanish LaLiga matches following changes to broadcasting rights and offers. These are allegations, not findings of wrongdoing. If the authority ultimately establishes an infringement, the company could face a fine of up to 10 percent of turnover. The LaLiga inquiry remains at an explanatory stage.
