Sejm passes law introducing tax on exceptional profits of fuel companies
Poland’s lower house has passed a revised windfall tax bill targeting fuel companies, voting 237–202, with one abstention. The bill now goes to the Senate. It covers March 2026 through March 2027, setting rates of 60% for producers and 50% for qualifying sellers that do not produce fuel. Revenue, initially estimated at PLN 4 billion, would help finance the government’s CPN fuel price relief program. President Karol Nawrocki referred an earlier version to the Constitutional Tribunal in July over concerns about retroactive taxation.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk pledged to revive the relief program immediately if the president signs the revised legislation.
