Poland has signed a framework agreement for the procurement of several thousand Piorun man-portable air-defense systems for the armed forces of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Norway. More than 80% of the systems are expected to go to the Polish military. The agreement, signed at Mesko’s plant in Skarżysko-Kamienna, is worth approximately PLN 8 billion and is expected to be financed through the EU’s SAFE program. A separate implementation contract is still required before a formal order is placed and is expected within several days.

Developed in Poland, Piorun systems can be operated by individual soldiers and are designed to destroy low-flying aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and drones.
