Since April judgement of CJEU, banks have received 6,600 complaints regarding SKD
Since the April 23, 2026, ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union, Polish banks have received about 6,600 complaints concerning the free credit sanction. Courts have issued roughly 1,500 rulings, nearly 80% of them favorable to banks, according to the Polish Bank Association.
By the end of Q1 2026, the total number of related lawsuits had risen to 27,241, with 23,142 cases still pending. The ruling has not yet caused a major shift in national case law. However, banks are expected to adjust interest income and amend loan agreements to reflect the court’s interpretation. Poland’s central bank says the potential costs remain highly uncertain but do not threaten banking-sector stability.
