Several major Swedish companies are tightening remote-work rules, especially in engineering and industrial sectors. Scania recently told about 8,000 office employees to return to the office five days a week, prompting strong criticism from staff representatives, who warn some employees may leave. Volvo AB and Volvo Cars have also ordered a full return to office work, while Volvo Cars has begun monitoring office attendance through connections to its corporate Wi-Fi. Ericsson earlier raised its required office presence from 50% to 60%, and Electrolux reduced remote work from two days a week to five days a month. Employers argue that office-based work improves cooperation in an unstable economic environment, but unions warn of talent losses.
