Tax-free investment accounts get presidential approval
President Karol Nawrocki has signed legislation introducing Personal Investment Accounts, known as OKI, clearing the way for the new savings vehicle to launch on January 1, 2027. Investment assets held within an OKI will be exempt from Poland’s capital gains tax up to PLN 100,000, while a separate PLN 25,000 allowance will apply to savings assets.
The reform is intended to encourage Polish households to move more savings toward investment rather than relying primarily on traditional bank deposits. Policymakers hope the accounts will increase domestic participation in the capital market and provide a larger pool of long-term capital for Polish companies. The measure could therefore have implications beyond household finances, including potentially increasing retail activity on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
