This year's Christmas to be frugal
Poles will spend more than half as much on Christmas as before the pandemic, according to the Provident Barometer. This year, we will spend an average of PLN 950 for Christmas, slightly more than in 2020. Every fifth person admits that they will not be able to afford all the Christmas expenses, nearly half will buy all the necessary things but will choose the cheapest ones. Almost 60 percent of Poles expect a gift under the Christmas tree. While before the pandemic, we preferred more personal gifts, now the most desirable gifts are money or shopping vouchers.
"As part of this year's Christmas Provident Barometer survey, we asked Poles a question about the expenses they plan to incur for the upcoming Christmas. It turns out that most Poles plan to spend about PLN 950 for this purpose this year. This is about PLN 200 higher than last year, but still much lower than it was in pre-pandemic times," Karolina Łuczak, a spokeswoman for Provident Polska, said.
In 2019, we allocated about PLN 1,700 for Christmas. In this year's declarations, ladies who plan to spend about PLN 902 are more economical. For men, it is on average slightly more than PLN 1,000. Importantly, in this year's edition of the survey, half of the respondents cannot estimate how much the holiday will cost.
