Trilateral talks resume contacts
Talks between the United States, Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi were “constructive” and will continue in the coming weeks, according to U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, signaling cautious diplomatic progress and the reopening of key military channels.
The second round of negotiations focused on steps toward a ceasefire and how it could be monitored. Witkoff confirmed a deal for both Moscow and Kyiv to release 157 prisoners of war each and to restore direct U.S.–Russia military contacts, led on the American side by General Alexus Grynkewich. He said the communication channel had been suspended before the war but is essential for stability.
Delegations thanked the United Arab Emirates for hosting and acknowledged Donald Trump’s efforts to push for an end to the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the talks productive and said future sessions may be held in the U.S., stressing peace must not reward Russian aggression.
