The President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) imposed a fine of nearly PLN 4 million on Exito from Opalenica (Wielkopolska) for committing fraud against seniors during organized events.
The company sells its products during special events. They promise a gift for each person who will participate. The gifts do not exist, though, the president of the office, Marek Niechciał, remarks, and the promised "prizes" are not for free.
“In addition, the company claimed that the consumer can save up to several thousand zloty, the cost of the kits they sell is incredibly high, and prices from before the reduction never existed. With all these efforts, Exito managed to persuade many consumers to buy expensive products,” he explained.
UOKiK also pointed out that Exito refused to accept requests to withdraw from the contract.
