UOKiK opens proceedings against Columbus Energy
Poland’s competition and consumer protection authority, UOKiK, has opened proceedings against Columbus Energy over alleged consumer-rights violations. The regulator is examining delayed refunds after contract cancellations, unclear information about withdrawal rights, missed installation deadlines, and insufficient details about the equipment being sold. Some customers reportedly were not told the manufacturer or model of devices, limiting their ability to compare offers. UOKiK also questions clauses suggesting installation work automatically ended the right to cancel.
Columbus CEO Dawid Zieliński said the company had reviewed the concerns and updated its procedures, including clearer product specifications, project deadlines, and refund processes. The case could result in a fine of up to 10 percent of annual revenue. Separately, prosecutors are investigating alleged misconduct by independent sales advisers.
