Volkswagen shifts production as German plants close
Volkswagen plans to close four factories in Germany as part of a restructuring aimed at improving the group’s long-term competitiveness and profitability, with some production expected to move to Poland. The decision reflects continuing pressure on European carmakers from high costs, weaker demand and growing competition, particularly in electric vehicles.
Poland is positioned to benefit from the reallocation because Volkswagen already operates a substantial manufacturing base in the country. The group produces vehicles and components at several Polish locations, supported by an established supplier network and comparatively competitive production costs. The German closures form part of a broader effort to reduce excess capacity and simplify operations across Europe.
