Women leaders urge President to sign boards law

Business leaders, management and supervisory board members, and representatives of the Women on Boards Club have appealed to President Karol Nawrocki to sign legislation implementing the EU Women on Boards Directive.

In an open letter, the group argues the law is not about introducing quotas or granting special privileges, but about strengthening corporate governance through more transparent recruitment and promotion processes for company boards. The signatories reject claims that Poland lacks qualified female candidates, pointing to the growing number of women with business, legal and executive experience who are ready to serve on listed company boards.

Supporters also dismiss criticism that the legislation affects only around 200 publicly listed companies, arguing that governance standards adopted by the country's largest businesses often influence the wider market.

They say the President's signature would complete the legislative process while reinforcing merit-based appointments, transparency and better use of Poland's growing pool of experienced female executives.
