On October 4, 2020, the Ministry of Health informed about 1,932 new cases of coronavirus infection in Poland and 26 deaths.
"Although the total number of cases detected in Poland is still much lower than in many Western European countries, the number has exceeded 100,000 of infections. This shows how quickly the virus spreads in a country that has mildly passed the first wave of infections,” the Reuters news agency commented.
The number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Poland has so far reached 2,600. In the past week, the record number of daily infections was recorded as many as three times.
"We are facing an Italian scenario in which hospitals will run out of respirators and beds," Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Robert Biedroń said at a joint conference of the Left on Saturday.
The leaders of SLD and Spring called for a reform of the health service and an increase in financial outlays for this purpose. Politicians also accused the ruling United Right of dealing with party issues instead of fighting the pandemic.
From October 3, additional restrictions are in force in 51 counties; 17 of them are in the red zone and 34 in the yellow zone. In the red zone there are, among others, Sopot, and in the yellow one, among others Gdańsk, Gdynia, Rzeszów, Kielce, Nowy Sącz and Szczecin.
Former health minister Łukasz Szumowski is infected with the coronavirus. The onet.pl portal was the first to inform about the case. Onet wrote that members of his family are also among those infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The portal said, citing its own sources, that the infection took place in Poland. Szumowski had previously been on vacation in Spain. Among others, Jerzy Brzęczek, the coach of the Polish football team, also fell victim to the virus.
