Audiobooks, e-books and podcasts more and more popular among Poles

The coronavirus pandemic period allowed Poles to find a moment for culture. During the isolation, they read over 50 million e-pages and listened to over 7 million hours of history in Empik Go. Such great interest in culture allowed the application to record a spectacular increase in terms of the number of new users. An important factor that had an impact on this increase is the availability of the Empik Premium program for 60 days for free to everyone, under which a selected part of the Empik Go catalog is available.
Summing up the pandemic time in terms of the consumption of audiobooks and e-books should also be distinguished three most popular titles, which most often used the application users. Among the digital books, ‘Unf*ck Yourself: Get out of your head and into your life’ by Gary John Bishop was most often read along with’Gynecologists’ by Izabela Komendołowicz and thriller ‘The Babysitter’ written by Sheryl Browne.
Among the audiobooks there were "365 days" by Blanka Lipińska, the appreciated "Patient", whose author is Alex Michaelides and the original audio series of Empik Go, "Fucking Bornholm" with the participation of such stars as Magdalena Różczka, Leszek Lichota, Michał Czernecki and Olga Kalicka.
“We have worked for many months on the development of the e-book and audiobook market by creating a user-friendly application and a subscription giving freedom of choice. The time of the pandemic has clearly indicated that these activities bring effects and are part of trends in changes in our lifestyle. In the coming months, we will develop a new category of podcasts and expand the catalog of titles available for reading and listening, also reaching for content from outside the publishing industry,” Kuba Piotrkowicz, Head of Digital Content in the Empik group, announced.
