Poles drinking less and less beer
Beer sales in Poland continued to decline in 2025 despite improved affordability. Total sales value fell by 4.1% to PLN 22.5 billion, while volume dropped 5.5% to 2.9 billion liters, extending a downward trend seen since 2019. Alcoholic lagers, which account for nearly 80% of the market, recorded the sharpest declines.
Non-alcoholic and flavored beers were the only growing segments, though growth in alcohol-free beer slowed to 3% from 17.4% a year earlier. The alcohol-free segment is now worth PLN 1.8 billion. Rising excise taxes — up nearly 47% since 2019 — and higher production costs continue to push prices up. Although beer remains the largest FMCG category, its importance in household spending is gradually decreasing.
